Jacob Bethell (Rugby Meteors) makes Test debut in New Zealand
Congratulations
to Jacob Bethell who is making his England Test debut in New Zealand today. He joins Chris Jordan (Old Alleynians) and Keiran Powell (Old Millfieldians) as recent West Indies born Test players who have featured in the Cricketer Cup.
21 year old Bethell has made spectacular progress since moving to Rugby School from his native Barbados. He had already made his County Championship debut for Warwickshire before becoming
Wisden Schools Cricketer of the Year in 2022. He made a rapid 40 against Uppingham Rovers on Cricketer Cup debut in 2023 and this year has established himself in England white ball sides.
Jacob is joined in the England XI in Christchurch by other Cricketer Cup players Zak Crawley (Old Tonbridgians), Ollie Pope (Old Cranleighians) and Gus Atkinson (Bradfield Waifs). Ben Duckett (Stowe Templars) is another well established England player playing in the match, but is yet to play in the Cricketer Cup.
